Rev. Richard Joyner came to share his journey in Conetoe, NC. His community engaged youth in a complete overhaul of the community’s food system with a focus on human development.

Hey everyone, it’s me Destiny Harris, your Lugoff-Elgin intern. This week we talked about stress. We had a special guest named Tina Stokes Griggs from the The ALPHA Behavioral Health Center. Ms. Griggs was awesome…she gave us some great tips on ways to relieve stress and how to recognize stress. We talked about things that stress people out such as school, work, and relationships. Ms.Griggs explained to us that not all stress is bad. In fact, stress can help build us. For example, I hate public speaking. It is a fear of mine that always stresses me out. However, it is something that improves my social skills. We also learned about how stress can affect a person. An example of this would be someone stressing over a test and not getting enough rest…then they end up not having clear a mind to pass the test. Ms. Griggs helped us create glitter jars and also did a guided meditation that left Seth and I drooling🤤 on her blankets.
I also want to give a shout out to Ms. Melia Campolong for giving us the best water aerobic lesson at the Kershaw County Parks & Recreation DepartmentAquatic Center. Ms.Campolong guided us through water aerobics and how it impacts different parts of the body. We used different equipment in the pool such as buoys, noodles, and water weights. I liked the water aerobics because it’s something that everyone can do. This week was very empowering because I got to learn new things. Thanks Ms. Campolong and Ms.Griggs for giving me new ideas to improve my health.

Hi guys, it’s me, Destiny. This week I’m going to talk about believing in yourself. Sometimes as humans, we can be our worst enemies. Personally, I always lacked self-confidence. I would always doubt myself when I had an objective or wanted to start something new I would be negative about it. Doing this internship has taught me the value of confidence. The quote above is very inspiring because I realize that things we do will always help build us. We often let fear decide for us because fear is something that comes naturally when we faced with things. Even if we win or fail at anything it can be done and we still will have something to take with us. So remember if you are scared to do something, take the chance and do it.
We live in a high-stress society so learning how to relive that stress is super important. An easy way to do this is practicing breathwork a little bit every day. Just taking deep even breaths helps relieve stress.
Hey you guys it’s me Destiny again. This week I’m going to talk about staying hydrated and drinking water. Water is the healthiest drink that you can find. There are many benefits from H2O. Water helps carry important things to the cells throughout are body. Water is a natural detox and removes waste from the body. Also, water helps maintain health and keeping the skin young. Water very essential to the body and you should drink half your weight in ounces to get the good part out of it.
Today I will give you guys a health tip about reading the nutrition labels. On Tuesday this week, Missi came to talk to us about nutrition labels and how to calculate the calories on prepackaged food. The important take away was whenever you read the ingredients make sure you can pronounce the words because if you are not able to means that it was made in a lab and isn’t natural.
