Community health organization launches new healthcare resource portal

‘Where is Care’ website from LiveWell Kershaw to help county residents locate healthcare providers, resources

Camden, S.C. — Feb. 26, 2020 — In a 2016 survey conducted by the LiveWell Kershaw Coalition (LWK), more than 1,100 Kershaw County residents said they believe people in the county do not seek healthcare because they are uninsured, cannot afford care, cannot get time off from work, have no family doctor and/or have no transportation.

To address these issues and help residents and families connect with healthcare resources located in Kershaw County, the LWK’s CHIP Access to Care Action Team created “Where is Care in Kershaw County,” an online directory of nearly 200 clinical and social service providers. The portal is designed for use by residents, healthcare providers and local policymakers. In addition to helping county residents find health care and mental health resources, the portal will also help policymakers to access Kershaw County data to guide decision making.

“Where is Care will be a critical tool in helping Kershaw County residents find care and support in the area, whether they need a doctor, a support group, or another healthcare or mental health resource,” said LWK Coalition Director Kathryn Johnson. “We are so excited to create a virtual resource hub that will undoubtedly prove as an invaluable resource for all of our county’s residents and is one more step forward on the journey in creating a healthier Kershaw County.”

LWK brought Kershaw County leaders together back in March 2019 to create a Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP); from the plan, one of three action groups was formed around the topic of "Access to Care.” This action team is a committee of individuals who meet monthly to work toward a goal of increasing and improving ways to access affordable healthcare and transportation services among rural and underserved residents. The Where is Care portal is a specific project spearheaded by LWK’s Access to Care team. If interested in joining the Access to Care team, contact Johnson at kjohnson@cmcofkc.org.

Once launched, the Where Is Care portal can be accessed at whereiscarekc.com. As resources or information changes, providers and site users can submit a request through the site for information to be added or updated.
